2020年2月9日（台灣時間10日上午），第92屆奧斯卡金像獎頒獎典禮在加州好萊塢杜比劇院登場，南韓電影《寄生上流》表現大放異彩、勇奪4項大獎，成為奧斯卡史上首部榮獲最佳影片的外語電影，還拿下最佳原創劇本、最佳國際電影獎，導演奉俊昊也抱回小金人，成為史上第二位贏得奧斯卡最佳導演的亞裔導演。
現年45歲的瓦昆菲尼克斯（Joaquin Phoenix）憑藉電影《小丑》中的精湛演出橫掃獎季，也不負眾望登上奧斯卡影帝寶座，贏得他從影生涯第一座小金人，也是希斯萊傑（Heath Ledger）後再有演員以小丑角色贏得奧斯卡。瓦昆菲尼克斯在頒獎台上強調，獎季給予他及其餘演員機會，為性別平等、種族平等、氣候變遷、原住民權利等牽涉「對抗不公義」議題發聲，也哽咽感謝已逝的演員哥哥瑞凡菲尼克斯（River Phoenix）讓他愛上電影。
美國女星芮妮齊薇格（Renée Zellweger）曾憑《冷山》（Cold Mountain）贏得奧斯卡最佳女配角獎，今年則以述說好萊塢一代巨星茱蒂嘉蘭（Judy Garland）生平的電影《茱蒂》（Judy）奪得影后。芮妮齊薇格在《茱蒂》片中交出細膩表演，也將榮耀歸功於茱蒂嘉蘭留下的精神遺產：「是我們的英雄讓我們團結在一起。」

南韓電影《寄生上流》在坎城影展拿下最高榮譽金棕櫚獎後，在奧斯卡獎再接再厲，奪得最佳影片、最佳導演、最佳原創劇本、最佳國際電影獎4項大獎，寫下南韓影史紀錄，奉俊昊更成為繼李安之後第二位鍍金的亞裔導演。

奉俊昊領獎時則笑說，若影藝學院容許，他願意用德州電鋸把獎座切成5段，與其他入圍者平分，也說自己如今可以安心在派對一路暢飲到天明：「我今晚已經準備好開喝了」。在典禮後受訪時，奉俊昊除了感嘆這個夜晚實在太過瘋狂，也強調他希望「外語片贏得最佳影片」一事，有朝一日將不再成為話題。
男星布萊德彼特（Brad Pitt）在堪稱「死亡之組」的最佳男配角入圍者中脫穎而出，抱回從影生涯第一座小金人，除了感謝導演昆汀塔倫提諾（Quentin Tarantino）、對手演員李奧納多狄卡皮歐（Leonardo DiCaprio）外，布萊德彼特也特別向他在《從前，有個好萊塢》（Once Upon a Time in Hollywood）片中飾演的角色——特技演員致敬，感謝他們對好萊塢產業的貢獻。
女星蘿拉鄧恩（Laura Dern）憑藉在《婚姻故事》（Marriage Story）中扮演離婚律師的精湛表現橫掃奬季，也順利奪得最佳女配角獎項。蘿拉鄧恩在致詞中特別向她的母親、曾三度獲奧斯卡提名的女星黛安拉德（Diane Ladnier）致意：「有些人說，他們從未遇見過生命中的英雄，但如果你身受眷顧的話，（英雄）就是你的父母。」

奧斯卡獎得主由美國影藝學院（AMPAS）的6000多名會員共同選出，本屆典禮延續去年，並沒有設置主持人。雖然主持人之位依然懸缺，本屆典禮表演節目亮點處處，電影《冰雪奇緣2》的主題曲〈Into the Unknown〉由9個國家的女歌手共同演出，日文版由知名演員、歌手松隆子代表演唱。
另外，當紅歌手怪奇比莉（Billie Eilish）也擔任表演嘉賓，在緬懷逝世影人橋段獻唱，曾以動畫短片《親愛的籃球》（Dear Basketball）獲得奧斯卡獎、日前不幸因直昇機意外罹難的NBA球星柯比布萊恩（Kobe Bryant），以及先前錄製真人秀時意外逝世的台灣演員高以翔都出現在大螢幕上。
