公司來了新人，主管請你"Please show him the ropes."千萬不要以為是要拿什麼繩子，如果這樣回答就糗了，"What Ropes? I don't have any ropes."
show someone the ropes的意思，是教…（某人）如何工作，是商場常見的表達。
Please show him the ropes.
（X）請拿繩子給他。
（O）請告訴他要做什麼（怎麼做）。
這裡的rope意思是規矩、繩準、準則，如果想請教別人，可以說：
show／teach someone the ropes 指導….做事
Would you be available to teach／show me the ropes?（你有空指導我怎麼做嗎？）
如果要表達很熟悉某項工作、很有經驗可以說：
know the ropes 很熟悉......（流程、工作內容）
如果是新手，還在學習的人，就可以說：
learn the ropes 學習做事方法
舉例：
How's the new job going?（新工作如何？）
Great, my supervisor wanted me to learn the ropes before I start doing anything more sophisticated.（很好，我主管要我做複雜的工作之前，先學一些基本的工作方法。）
如果你已經是know the ropes的人，要show the ropes給新進同事，你可以這麼說：
watch what I do for a while（看一下我怎麼做。）
why don't you make a start on this?（不如就從這個開始吧？）
